Do students need an account or sign-up?
No. Nobody signs up, signs in, or hands over an email address. Students just open answerboards.com/whiteboard and start writing. It is quicker than handing out physical boards.
What devices does it work on?
Any device with a web browser: Chromebooks, laptops, iPads, tablets and phones. It works with a touchscreen, a stylus, a mouse or a trackpad, and there is a text tool for students who find trackpad handwriting tricky.
Where do student answers go? Is it GDPR-friendly?
Nowhere, and that is by design. Answers are drawn on the student's own device and never leave it. There are no accounts, no servers storing student work and no personal data collected, which makes it easy to approve for classroom use.
How does 'hide and show' work?
When a student finishes writing they tap Hide, which covers their answer with a full-screen 'Answer hidden' screen so neighbours can't copy. When the teacher says '3, 2, 1, show me!', students tap once to reveal their answer full-screen and hold up their device, exactly like physical mini whiteboards.
What is '3, 2, 1, show me'?
It's a whole-class feedback routine: the teacher asks a question, every student writes an answer on their board, and on the count of three everyone reveals at once. Because every student answers every question, the teacher instantly sees what the whole class knows, not just the student with their hand up.
What happens if a student accidentally refreshes the page?
Their board comes straight back. AnswerBoards automatically saves the current board on the student's device, so an accidental refresh or closed tab doesn't lose an answer mid-question.
